The Course at Scarlet Hill
The course is a combination of permanent and portable fences on 40 acres of hayfields. The portables are always out and are moved regularly. Standards and rails are available on the field for warm up or to allow for additional schooling options. We are generally open from June to November.
The course is also available for clinics and Pony Club. We are happy to set specific exercises as needed. Please contact us for special rates and availability.
You must call ahead to book a time to ride or school as we limit the number of riders on the course. We reserve the right to close the grounds if conditions are not suitable for riding. (Be sure to leave a phone number when you reserve your time so we can call if conditions are bad). You can reach us at (978) 448-6100 or e-mail us at info@scarlethillfarm.com.
When you arrive, check in with the barn staff, they can help you park, take your releases and fees and give you information about any areas that may be under construction.
Some things to remember:
- A helmet, vest and ground person are required when jumping.
- A helmet is required for all riding and driving.
- A signed release form for the current year and copy of your current Coggins are required of all riders and horses. If you are under 18, your form must be signed by a parent or guardian.
- Please do not allow horses to paw in the water jump: it is not good for the base and it creates holes for others to fall into.
- Please stick to the mowed paths when conditioning so you don't trample the hay. If any areas look like freshly seeded dirt, keep off; we are always trying to improve the footing.
- Inform the barn staff if you fall (even if you landed on your feet).
- You are responsible for what you choose to jump, have your ground person check the jump for size and safety before you jump it. If you see any holes or unsafe jumps tell the barn staff so we can fix them.
- There is water in the parking area for drinking and washing the horses, we would prefer outside horses not come in the barn. People, however are welcome to use the bathroom.
Conditioning
We also offer an opportunity to ride without jumping. 60 acres of hilly hayfields, perfect for conditioning trot sets and gallops. We have a measured distance laid out so you can practice your pace (350, 450, and 520 MPM). Most areas are wide enough for carriage driving.
